Kumasi Technical University
Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) is an institution with a rich history, dedicated to providing high-quality education in engineering, applied arts, science, technology, and vocational training. Established in 1954 as the Kumasi Technical Institute, the university has evolved over the years, achieving various milestones.
Kumasi Technical University’s journey began in 1954 when it was founded as the Kumasi Technical Institute, initially offering craft courses. In 1963, it expanded its offerings to include technician diplomas and sub-professional courses. Notably, the Polytechnic Law of 1992 (PNDC L.321) elevated the institution to a tertiary status under the Ghana Education Service, focusing on manufacturing, commerce, science, and technology.
As a Polytechnic, KsTU gained recognition as one of Ghana’s prominent and dynamic Polytechnics. In 2016, the passage of the Technical University Act (Act 922) marked a transformative moment as Kumasi Polytechnic transitioned into Kumasi Technical University. This change emphasized higher education in engineering, applied arts, science, technology, and technical and vocational training.
Kumasi Technical University is situated in the heart of the Garden City of West Africa, Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region in Ghana. The campus provides a picturesque backdrop for learning and personal development.
KsTU has become a vital center for training, not only for the people of Ghana but also for students from other African countries. With a commitment to excellence, the university continues to play a crucial role in driving technological development in the region and beyond.
